Summary from B&N.com:
What a tangled world she weaves...
For generations, Spinsters have
been called by Arras’s Manipulation Services to work the looms and
determine what people eat, where they live, how many children they have,
and even when they die. Gifted with the rare ability to weave time with
matter, Adelice is exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in Arras,
being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means
privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary.
It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But once
you become a Spinster, there is no turning back. Now caught in a web of
lies and intrigue, Adelice must decide who to trust: her kind mentor,
Enora; the handsome and mysterious valet Jost; or the charismatic Guild
ambassador Cormac Patton. They each have secrets, but Adelice is about
to unravel the deadliest one of all, a sinister truth that could destroy
reality as she knows it. In a powerful and original debut
about a world where the Guild decides everything, one extraordinary girl
dares to defy the power of men and the boundaries of love.
My Review:
Crewel is riveting and astonishing. The storyline is mind-blowing unique. The characters were so interesting and fun to read about. The writing style was beautiful. The dystopian world is breathe-taking.
Adelice has this rare power to be a Spinster that her world Arras needs to survive, but she has been trying to hide her ability. During her test for the ability she accidentally slips up and uses her talent. The Guild brutally takes her away from her family for her to become a Spinster. Her new life as a Spinster is full of twist, turns, and discoveries.
Adelice is such a fun character to read about and from. She has a unique personality that is every interesting to read about. The other characters were very interesting also, and they sure stirred things up. The Spinsters are very interesting and complex. They are so unique and different, they blow me away.
Gennifer Ablin did a amazing job creating this beautiful, haunting dystopian world. The way she worded everything was so beautiful and descriptive. She also did a incredible job creating the characters. I loved her writing style and I can't wait to read more from her.
