Review: Dualed by Elsie Chapman

Release Date: 2/26/2013
Genre: YA Dystopian
Goodreads Link: "Here"
Summary:
You or your Alt? Only one will survive.
The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.
Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West’s confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she’s no longer certain that she’s the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.

My Thoughts:

Dualed was not what I was expecting. I had really expectations for this book, and sadly it didn't make them. The dystopian world was beautiful, but there was not enough world building. I had issues with the characters. It just wasn't for me.

The dystopian world seemed really interesting and unique, but there was no world building. World building is extremely important to me in a dystopian. There was mot very much of it in this book, and it could have used some more. I would have loved to see more into the world of this book.

I had big issues with West. I hated all of her actions; I think she would have done tings a little differently. I didn’t know until I start reading the book that the alt's are real people with a family too. That really made me enjoy this book a lot less. None of the background characters really stand out for me.

I really liked the writing style. Elsie Chapman's writing was beautiful. At times it seemed rushed; to the point that it got a bit confusing. I liked the idea of this book, but it was not for me.

My Rating:

2 our of  5 hearts, It just wasn't for me.
